Bishop Hayward Clemon Smith, II

OMNIUM SERVUS, LATIN: “SERVANT OF ALL”

Bishop Smith serves as the Metropolitan-Bishop of the Ecumenical Convergence of Christian Ministries, as well as the president and senior pastor of the Mount Hermon Baptist Church, Inc., located in the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He accepted the Lord as his personal savior at the age of 9. It was then that the ways of servitude began for him. Bishop Smith began to faithfully serve his pastor (the late) Reverend Charles Russell Robinson as a sacristan and armor bearer.

While serving, his interest in music and his ability to play the piano became apparent as the Lord began to cultivate his musical gift. He developed into an excellent musician and was blessed to accompany several well-known gospel artists. He also served as the musical director for various churches in the city Philadelphia and abroad.

During his preliminary development, he relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as the musical director for the Pentecostal Church of Christ (PCC) under the pastorate of (the late) Archbishop J. Delano Ellis, II who was then, the Primate of the United Pentecostal Churches of Christ. It was there that Bishop Smith began to further his spiritual development. He heard the ‘clarion call’ of God to Gospel ministry, and underwent intense biblical and ecclesiastical training under the tutelage and mentorship of Bishop Ellis.

He was installed to the pastorate of Mount Hermon Baptist Church in 2013 and designated to the rank of the episcopacy by his spiritual-father, Bishop Larry Darnell Trotter of Chicago, Illinois. In 2014, after being duly consecrated and receiving historical “Apostolic Succession” at the hands of Bishop Trotter, Bishop Smith was appointed to serve as Secretary General for the New Century Fellowship of Churches, Inc., serving until Bishop Trotter’s retirement from Reformational life. As President and Pastor of the Mount Hermon Baptist Church, Inc., he and the ministry continue to grow in grace and to work the vision, as the Lord is yet “adding to the Church such as should be saved.”

Having served the Lord’s church for over two decades, his portfolio as a churchman is quite comprehensive. With his rich background in ecclesiastical order, worship and liturgy, Bishop Smith has garnered the respect of his peers. Some of his principal tasks and accomplishments have been organizing and preparing ceremonies for Episcopal Consecrations and Holy Ordinations and creating credentials for the same, establishing the New Covenant Christian Worship Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, and founding the accredited institution of Transfiguration Theological Seminary, where he currently serves as President. Bishop Smith continues to serve the universal Church as an Episcopal Consultant for various denominational leaders and is a sought-after authority in matters of ceremony, heraldry, liturgy and ecclesiastical protocol.

Bishop Smith is currently pursuing his Master of Divinity Degree from Virginia Union University (Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology) and is favored of the Lord to have as his wife of 16 years, Lady Carmen Jai, 6 daughters,1 son and 2 grandchildren, all of whom are the joy and spice of his life.
